About the Artist

Andréa Agosto is best known for their splattered portraits of Black women, creating beauty out of chaos. They rely on the stark contrast of the white canvas and Black ink to give the subjects their shape, or, in her words, “beauty from the blackness.” With no formal training, Andréa is eager to try new techniques and styles, as they also do hand-drawn and digital illustrations. Recently, they have taken up water coloring. The majority of their work is focused on positive representations of Black women. From Lauryn Hill to original characters in a variety of illustration styles, Andréa believes that creating artwork that promotes Black women will help increase positive representation for these amazing, beautiful, intelligent and magical women.
